Interpretation

Warming effect: NOAA's Annual Greenhouse Gas Index, the effective radiative forcing of each long-lived gas relative to 1750, in watts per square meter (W/m²), one value per year; NOAA updates it once a year, in the fall. "Ozone-layer gases" are NOAA's CFC group (CFC-11, CFC-12, CFC-113 plus carbon tetrachloride, methyl chloroform and halons); "HFCs and SF₆" are the seven most abundant HFCs plus sulfur hexafluoride. Nitrous oxide: NOAA's globally averaged monthly means and trend at marine surface sites (ppb), and NOAA's yearly increases. Gases in the bottom two charts: NOAA's yearly global means in parts per trillion (ppt); HFC-23 after 2007 is from the AGAGE network. Water vapor is not in this list: its amount follows temperature rather than driving it, see the water cycle page.
